Michael Gisser

Michael is a qualified and fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina, and is also an AAMFT approved supervisor. He works with individuals, couples, and families from a systemic perspective, looking at all of the factors that impact the lives of his clients. His methodology is to create individualized treatment plans for each of his clients. His style is not for every client. He is honest and direct and will challenge clients’ perceptions and assumptions and aid them in facilitating real change. Michael works with individuals, couples, first responders, military personnel, veterans, and their families, and the LGBTQIA community. He is knowledgeable of world religions and diverse cultural backgrounds.

With training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Michael is qualified and experienced in working with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma and addiction recovery. He is a certified clinical trauma professional. He trained in Traumatic Event Management, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Level 1 and 2, Solution Focused therapy, and family systems. His integrative approach allows him to tailor a treatment plan to meet the goals and needs of his clients.

Michael completed his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a Medical Family Therapy concentration at Northcentral University. He received his Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. He is also an ordained rabbi, completing his seminary work in 1998. Michael is a former US Army chaplain trained in Marriage and Family Therapy.

In his free time, Michael is on the golf course, watching or playing ice hockey, and is a Marvel/Star Wars fan. Whenever possible, family vacations revolve around theme parks, roller coasters, and the beach. He is also happy relaxing with his wife of 25 years and their two dogs.
